A new answer to the problem of water quality has just arrived in Britain, and is now being offered to café owners by Fast Foods Systems of Reading. It is a unique new filter product with aspects developed specifically for the coffee and beverage trade, made by Selecto of Georgia, USA.

The right filter for the job is an important question, says Selecto.
Most operators know that they should get contaminants out of their water, but the problem is that each kind of unwelcome contaminant needs a different removal technology… and sometimes a mix of technologies. The secret is to know what's in the water coming in to your site, and what needs to be in that water to get the best from the food and drink you are serving.

There are now a big number of operators offering water filtration systems for cafes and caterers - but are they all the same? Can they all be the same? Are all water-filtration problems the same... and if they are not, can one standard product be the answer?

A lot of different things affect the production of hot and cold
beverages. Some scale reducers get rid of calcium by chemically altering it through ion exchange - a water softener which exchanges a sodium ion for a calcium ion may prevent scale… but may turn water salty. Some people say that for hot and cold
beverages, you must use a carbon filter with polyphosphates - and others say that these do not do much for the taste of tea.

So - how do you know?

Selecto has many models aimed specifically at the coffee sector. They understand that coffee filters, like juice filters, serve many purposes and have to cope with different equipment and
environments, which require different filtration systems.

Selecto's SMF Coffee/Tea/Espresso & Juice filtration systems have a high flow, high capacity for contaminant reduction and lower pressure drop in filter life. The SMF filters also help with filter clogging and eliminating frequent cartridge changes, reducing equipment downtime and lower capacity. Selecto hollow carbon
filtration technology is the most sophisticated solution in operation for these applications.

And, most helpfully, the SMF is remarkably user-friendly - as it is known that the majority of caterers with filtration systems never change the filters, the ease of the 'twist-off' SMF allows even the busiest café to keep its filter in best condition.
